- We stopped each evening around sunset for "sundowners," a very civilized end to the day.
- This is as much of a hippo as we saw until Thursday, when we finally saw one out of the water.
- Giraffe. Really tall.
- "Good kill, eh?" "Oh yeah, sure gives you a thirst".

Wow, this is so cool. And I really appreciate your letting us participate via the web!

I am so happy to be travelling with such a good crew!!! Love, Nana - Lioness at the kill. Young male lion in the background.
- Lion kill! Who's a hungry kitty?
Check back for updates as various animals will be eating this buffalo for a couple days.
Amy H.@130.64.221.222 (05/21/2001 11:05:57):
Oh my gosh!!!! Hope you're having fun.
Bruce@161.114.88.75 (05/21/2001 16:11:04):
Egads... couldn't they just leave out a few saucers of milk or something??
48states@128.218.87.114 (05/21/2001 19:27:14):
Could you please ask the kitties to save me a buffalo wing?
MichaelJ@66.31.49.70 (05/21/2001 23:26:05):
Can I get fries with that? - Hyena and pup. This was the first time this litter of pups had been spotted.
Chris & Ali@63.27.152.229 (05/23/2001 19:06:09):
Very cute. Can you bring one home for Rogue? - Hyena den. Built out of a huge old termite mound. The pups are about 1 month old, and will lose their brown coloring in favor of spots in about another 2 months.
- Spotted eagle owl. Very lucky to see this, even luckier to get it on film.
Wen@161.114.88.72 (05/22/2001 07:58:44):

Great pictures - looking forward to seeing more soon. Were you allowed to play with the Lions! - Who thought the Tufts mascot would make it all the way to Africa? Oh wait...
michaela@4.17.250.5 (05/22/2001 08:28:48):
That is SO not Jumbo... he'd be MUCH more drunk! (and on fire.) Glad it's turning out to be all you wanted it to be - can't wait to hear more!!! - Impala across a dam. The vegetation is pretty lush for late autumn.
- Mosaic
We have safely arrived in Africa, after every one of our flights actually arrived ahead of schedule. This beautiful mosaic is the first thing you see as you enter Vuyatela Camp at Djuma.
Wen@161.114.88.72 (05/22/2001 10:31:33):
Glad to hear they are treating you both so fine!!! Can't wait to hear and see more!!! Have a ball!!!

Debby@64.12.103.151 (05/22/2001 17:14:43):
Wonderful pictures and commentaries. Am living this trip vicariously through you both! Enjoy, be safe, have fun.
Cousin Deb - This is the view from our private deck... very posh.
The Evening Commuter Crew@151.203.120.205 (05/22/2001 13:44:01):
Almost as good as the view from the train every evening. - View of Vuyatela from across the dam.
- Our first "big" animal sighting... this is a very cooperative female kudu seen on our ride into the park.
Mom@24.240.90.223 (05/22/2001 16:33:14):
This is incredibly exciting!!! I am so happy ( and jealous) o - Djuma's airstrip. To prevent hyena from chewing the tires off of planes left unattended, they must cover them with cut-off steel drums.
