- Hyenas
Hyena tongues are like very sharp cheese graters--that's how they get the bones so clean. In the back, a black-backed jackal waits patiently (or impatiently...who can tell) - I don't know why we pronounce it "zeee-bra."
The British pronunciation of zeb-ra (like "debra") makes much more sense.
Mom@24.240.90.223 (05/24/2001 15:40:32):
but then, the Brits are sooo much more sensible while we just have fun! Doesn't zeeebra have a much better ring to it! - Impala across a dam. The vegetation is pretty lush for late autumn.
- Impala. We saw hundreds of impala.
- It is very rare to see serval, a member of the cat family. Captured from video.

- Jackals may look like friendly dogs, but you wouldn't pet them a second time with your remaining hand.

- Lion kill! Who's a hungry kitty?
Check back for updates as various animals will be eating this buffalo for a couple days.

MichaelJ@66.31.49.70 (05/21/2001 23:26:05):
Can I get fries with that? - Lion, calling at night to intimidate the other lions (certainly effective on humans!). Captured from video.

- Lions in the mist. Not gorillas.
- Mosaic
We have safely arrived in Africa, after every one of our flights actually arrived ahead of schedule. This beautiful mosaic is the first thing you see as you enter Vuyatela Camp at Djuma.
