- "Take me to the river....drop me in the water...."
- "Mom! This water is FREEZING!!!"
- elk on the banks of the Yellowstone River
- hey...uh....Mr. Buffalo, sir?
the sign says "unstable ground"...maybe you shouldn't walk there? I mean....oh, forget it - coyote in a winter wonderland
- why what huge antlers you have!
- a fisheye shot at one of the hot springs
- you can see the layers of silica that have formed over the years
until finally this pebble was big enough to be ejected from its (small) geyser - we hike through a snowstorm and by the time we got to these hot springs, the sky was blue and lovely. a strange day.
- silty mud around the spring built up on everyone's boots causing us to carry around a couple extra pounds on our feet
- larkspur
- those are real bear prints. I guess bears don't care if the concrete's just been poured.
- these trees are called "bobby socks" for the layers of mineral that have formed over their trunks
- these pools are very very deep.
- this pool may look relaxing and inviting, but it's about 180 degrees in there.
- our guide Zack was pretty fond of the duck, and was happy to pose in a picture with him
